In his 2008 book "The Audacity of Hope", p. 256 as I recall, Barack Obama represented that dependency States tend to sap their people of initiative and dignity all while increasing government power to the point same literally treat all people as nothing but posable playthings to do with as is expedient to leaders.
Barack Obama was elected President on theory he was going to change the years-long trading in of jobs/equity/rights for something much better; what we got was only yet another President pushing the pedal even nearer the floor (

There seems not much evidence of progress or social evolution to America's and its immigrants' hopes, just a swifter spreading of tax-free government no-work/no assets living which takes a toll heavier than any tax could upon those "so lucky" to be allowed to be part of the Brave New World.
