Oregon’s own State and elitest educational, philosophical, and intellectual community have said (and continue to say) that the economy is on mighty big rocks re Oregon. For example, Oregon State government says it has all these great ideas but needs money (http://www.worksourceoregon.org/index.php?Itemid=58&id=148&option=com_content&task=view )…with the only “solution” so far being a proposed $472 million tax on hundreds of thousands of Oregonians making $125,000 a year or more (and obviously don’t exist) while cutting at least $26 million in State tax on unemployment benefits; the Oregon Center For Public Policy, the motto of which is “Because facts matter”, says Oregon is in the deepest downturn since the 1930’s Great depression (http://www.ocpp.org/cgi-bin/display.cgi?page=cp0908UIExtensio ).
As today’s Salem Statesman-Journal attests (http://www.statesmanjournal.com/article/20100116/NEWS/1160335/1001/news ), it indeed DOES keep getting worse and worse in Oregon every year, despite ever-increasing calls for more New Urban commercial conversions to housing and more snap-together New Urban communities (as if none presently cluttered the entire Coast and Valley).
However, according to, inter alia, Oregon State Senator Doug Whitsett (Dist. 28), Oregon State officials are rather comfortable in their albeit frozen compensation levels and reduced accessibility to the public without pay/perk cuts (http://urindependent.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=2483:oregon-state-employee-compensation&catid=21:general-news&Itemid=66 ).
Maybe somebody could ask Haitians if they’d like to come here and live this way or with less, or be restored to dignity in their own nation…instead of act like neither Haitians, Oregonians, nor really anybody else matters all that much to global governments.
