Remember a few decades ago the popular phrase "the devil made me do it"? Today, and I don't mean to drone on and on re one point...it's just that most USA media and pols insist all heed go to this subject, the catchphrase for those necessarily admitting they themselves WERE naughty seems to be "Blagojevich made me do it!".
It's indeed fascinating to watch how an initial ex rel USDOJ complaint transmogrifies in media like WSJ inter alia, day one, into "indictment"; just as terms like USA national/voter/terrorist questioning public policy slosh playfully together under an actual DHS plan which puts ALL from infrastructure to SBA under aegis of the President, it seems today you can use "indictment" as if on grand jury hearing and issuance, even if you only mean "you know, the complainant is making 'indictment' of the Blago administration like a film maker makes 'indictment' of a social issue via a movie".
Then, again recapping here, all sorts of folks boogey up to the dancefloor, saying how much lucre they've been making as a result of monopolistic influence granted not by the DHS Chart President's deign, but by a comparatively mere Governor in a party opposite the DHS President and most of those spieling in media and elsewhere; of course, such folks insist they want immunity from CRIMINAL LIABILTY for the specific actus rea they allegedly swear they did, i.e. no prison time simple, and of course they should be excused as salty lofty players from producing much in the way of hard evidence which necessarily should exist and be conclusive of alleged gubernatorial "armtwisting"...i.e., these power players should be looked at as poor waifs trembling as they bravely speak of some bad man's controlling nature.
But to paraphrase Harry Callahan again, we've lost track of a salient in all this excitement. Oh, bosh re all those hinky pardons Bush wants to "pre-emptively" issue for his Cabinet members; no, I mean does anyone else notice not much about how prosecutors will seek Executive and Judicial Orders estopping this or that activity(ies) allegedly bribed for is mentioned; who says they'll seek to bar naughty but immune singing little birdies for a period or life from participating in government contracts; shall anything be done to remedy revenues, dubious collection/loan actions, or even jobs "lost" due to "improprieties Blago made" them do? You get the idea.
Presently, it looks like the last thing anybody wants is a public trial of Rod Blagojevich, as if the Court were somehow very, very dicey for media and pols excited to severly prejudice the Defendant's rights with such public innuendo; even if the Illinois Legislature votes to remove Blago, or any Governor, though they may cite without hearings at which the Governor is present, they don't need to do more than say a majority of both Houses doesn't want someone as a Governor...period, no excuses ever REQUIRED. That adds no "proof" to simple hearsay and innuendo, and I say should therefore not responsibly be touted as invidious matter against Blagojevich through his Court trial conclusion, nor should anyone not "nabbed" having or immediately attempting blunt quid pro quo transfer(s) be slammed just for being consulted on interim vacancy appointments, or else we could see a slew of public officials in the USA charged for just not privately and by oneself picking a name out of hat full of every name in every phone book.
