William F. Buckley, Jr, in his 1968 collection "The Jeweler's Eye", reprinted comments from Senator Kennedy's first Senate term, comments which represented his basic and now lifelong personal belief that simply by giving jobs, commerce production, farms, and ESPECIALLY cash to Latin America and other places, JUST LIKE THAT all poverty evaporates, the USA isn't harmed, and immigrants here and still in nations of origin are instantly well-off, no need to look back; certainly, President Clinton et al have been uber-generous that way, and lo! Poverty is still in ALL those places...rampant, we're told, high costs versus income THERE also counted as "poverty"...as are the same-old same-old dictators and clergy who profit from the whole thing, and the Kennedy Klan's answer? Why, toss more money at it all and click ruby-red slippers while crossing your fingers, squinting.
Within below remaining text is verbatim as received from the American Conservative Union; myself believing it should not pass unless it contains final text saying all Congress members who support it will immediately resign and vacate their positions, if, upon cash flowing out in liberation theology appeasements, terror in the world doesn't stop, all nations don't immediately start respecting human rights, and all dictators and despots don't immediately leave global offices; otherwise, it's the same-old with even MORE losses to the USA and any conditions abroad which such legislators PROMISE can be cured by a barrage of cash THIS time FOR SURE, especially since it masks immigrants are then to be ported here in usual ways and spend that cash into the same few pockets, and is WHAT Iraq funds would be spent on; that ACU text I have read and afreed with, and is, to-wit:
"S.2433, the Global Poverty Act, may come up for a vote at any time and I am urging you to do everything in your power to stop its passage.
Obviously the concept of eliminating poverty around the world would appear, on the surface, to be a good thing. And since no one wants to be on the record as not wanting to combat poverty, you will -- without a doubt -- feel pressure from some of your less courageous peers and the media to let this horrendous bill pass!
It is not humane to burden the American taxpayer with billions in additional foreign aid. It is more than unacceptable. And moreover, if history is to be our guide, these monies often wind up lining the pockets of third-world tyrants and bureaucrats who hate America and do very little to help those who are truly in need -- remember the Oil for Food scandal!
The American people will be watching and will not tolerate massive United Nations style giveaways that are passed in the dark of night -- or in broad daylight for that matter. Expose S. 2433 for what it is; a stealth bill and a dagger aimed at the heart of America's sovereignty. I urge you to stand firm for what is right and not to buckle under the pressure. Filibuster if you must but kill S. 2433 by any means necessary!"
